Tark & Co Partners Attended IBA Annual Conference

Tark & Co’s partners Hannes Vallikivi and Risto Vahimets participated in the Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA) held in Madrid, Spain, from 4 to 9 October 2009.
This year’s conference attracted a record number of participants – more than 4,800. Mr Vallikivi led a Banking Law Committee session focusing on legal opinions on Thursday 8 October. During the session held in the form of a discussion, the participants talked about the rights and opportunities of third parties to rely on legal opinions issued by law firms and the resulting liability of a lawyer issuing the opinion. Other chairs and speakers at the session were André Andersson from the Swedish law firm Mannheimer Swartling, Stephen Powell from the London law firm Slaughter & May, Inigo de Luisa from the Spanish law firm Cuatrecasas Goncalves Pereira, David Liu from the Shanghai law firm Jun He, and Andrew Hamper from the Spain’s largest bank Banco Santander. The next IBA Annual Conference will be held in Vancouver, Canada, in October 2010.
